![]() ![]() Another common feature is that visual acuity can be improved after surgical removal of the defective lens. What do these pathologies have in common? First of all, they are easy to diagnose using the simplest examination method, i.e. ![]() Other causes include the abnormal structure of the lens, including spherophakia, the posterior lenticonus and its subluxation (ectopia lentis). The aging process of the lens is not the only cause of deterioration of vision. Similar cases of poor visual acuity caused by the presence of a transparent but dysfunctional crystalline lens were presented by Steve Dewey in his presentation The ‘Dysfunctional’ Dysfunctional Lens Patient. In the summary of the article, the authors noted the presence of high order aberrations (HOA) from internal optics, including the crystalline lens, which were not compensated by the cornea, and pointed to this as the cause of poor visual acuity. described a case of an unclear reduction in the quality of vision in a patient without visible cataract or other ocular causes. mention, among others, the appearance of higher order aberration (HOA) and light scattering as the consequences of the aging process, and draw attention to the diversified influence of the opaque lens on the quality of vision. The main purpose of introducing this term was to better understand the relationship between changes in visual quality caused by the aging (clouding) lens. The term dysfunctional lens syndrome refers to changes that occur in the crystalline lens after the age of 40. Keywords: Lens Dysfunction, Itrace, Decreased Vision, Amblyopia Thus, it is necessary to consider verification of the diagnosis made in some patients, pointing to a new disease entity, i.e. ![]() The medical history in the study group may indicate a congenital nature of the abnormal structure of the lens. The procedure was performed on patients over 18 years of age. In most cases removing the dysfunctional lens and replacing it with an artificial lens allowed for a significant improvement in vision to far distances while maintaining proper vision to near distances. The more pathological the results of the visual contrast sensitivity and higher order aberration, the lower the values of visual acuity to far distances. Low values of visual contrast sensitivity and high values of higher order aberrations for the internal optics were observed, with the correct values for the cornea. The results of examinations in the field of Higher Order Aberration, Opacity Map, Modulation Transfer Function™ and their graphical presentation using the Dysfunctional Lens Index™ module were analysed. The results of examinations using iTrace indicated the lens as the cause of visual impairment despite the apparent lack of opacity and other pathologies within it. The exclusion of causes related to the cornea and retina, optic nerve damage and the lack of visible pathologies of the lens in the physical examination did not allow for the determination of the cause of deterioration in visual acuity to far distances despite good vision to near distances. Visual impairment was observed regardless of patients’ age and type of eye defect diagnosed, with the majority of people suffering from myopia and accompanying astigmatism. The article analyses 22 cases of severe impairment of vision to far distances for no apparent reason. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() It faired well in the transition, although the art design is, just like the experience itself, functional, with little personality or originality: there’s very little that is visually striking or memorable. Golf With Your Friends isn’t an open-world RPG like The Witcher 3 or The Outer Worlds, so translating it from beefier consoles and PC rigs to a handheld, less powerful machine resulted in it looking far better, especially on the smaller screen. It’s a functional experience that feels hollow in execution. You’re thrown into a level of your choosing with some brilliant concepts such as the Egyptian-themed desert, but everything feels very mechanical and produced – there’s nothing beyond the golfing, no progression beyond striving for cosmetics, no humorous announcers or stylized loading screens and visuals. Team17 are famous for their English-wit and charming designs, such as with the aforementioned Worms, but Golf With Your Friends lacks a lot of that personality. Very few levels feel cheap in their difficulty, and they never once felt repetitive, even in replays. ![]() There’s often alternative paths, means of skipping over certain parts as well as a vast amount of forethought that can be had, especially given the free camera at your disposal that allows for some meticulous, albeit timed planning. The environments are as wacky and inventive as you’d hope to get from a minigolf experience but that doesn’t detract whatsoever from the layouts that can reward you for taking risks or push you to find inventive ways to cut down your number of shots. World / Level DesignĮven in the very first level of the eleven at your disposal, The Forest, there are some grueling courses that put your skills, or lack thereof, to the test. As such, there’s a wealth of replay value to be had as you strive to nab those sweet unlockables. Nonetheless, the wealth of customizability that you can find in their other titles has resurfaced, allowing for you to deck out your golf ball to make it much more than the typical bog-standard white sphere. Although, at first, it does feel somewhat akin to a tech demo, as it seems to lack in a lot of the personality that bleeds into Team17’s other works such as Worms and Escapists. Nonetheless, bugs aside, Golf With Your Friends is exactly that – a polished experience. You can end up thrown under the map, trapped in a nauseating first-person perspective or lodged in a gap that reveals the underbelly of the level, all of which serve to diminish the polished feel that the game overwise basks in. Also, please consider supporting us on Patreon so that we can continue to do what we love doing. However, bugs and janky glitches leave a lot to be desired, as, at times, Golf With Your Friends feels worse than a Bethesda game on launch.Įnjoying our Golf With Your Friends Switch review so far? Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for more Nintendo Switch content. Toppled with responsive gameplay that’s incredibly easy to pick up, even if you still find yourself doing absolutely terrible a few hours in, and Golf With Your Friends succeeds in its goal of letting the multiplayer fun speak for itself. Connectivity is flawless, as even playing with an Australian from the comfort of the UK resulted in no input lag or delay. It’s that simple, with the former allowing for singleplayer or a couch co-op experience, whilst the latter does what it says on the tin, letting you connect with friends and family across the internet to partake in a virtual golfing experience. There are two options you’ll pick from – offline or online. The cutesy logo is sprawled atop a slick and modern interface that leaves you with very few options, opting to serenade you with some upbeat music and a quaint windmill, rather than bombarding you with a migraine-inducing mess. That extends into the intuitiveness of the design, from the second you boot up Golf With Your Friends and find yourself face-to-face with the main menu, a moment of contention that can make-or-break a first impression. The experience retains the charming simplicity of the sport with the engaging and entertaining environments that make the miniature variant so popular, whether you’re golfing in a candy land or a magma-filled active volcano. Golf With Your Friends might not be a title that rolls off the tongue but the ball that you swing with your illustrious invisible club is unbelievably smooth in its responsiveness: Team17 has magnificently brought their hit multiplayer extravaganza to Nintendo’s latest console. ![]() ![]() Behind the times or what!Ĭreated by Bi Sheng in Song Dynasty China, Movable Type is similar to Woodcut, although this particular technique was used specifically for printing script.īefore Movable Type, lettering had to be written out in full, whereas this technique allowed individual letters to be configured and placed together in any order. Interestingly, Woodblock Printing wasn't popular in Europe until the 1400s, despite being developed in China some 1,200 years earlier. It was the first time in history when a design could be created and then accurately and quickly replicated. The invention of printing was revolutionary. The remaining woodcuts are used to produce both decorative artwork and lettering. The ink is then transferred by applying pressure to the back of the paper either manually or with a press to create the image. Once the wood is carved, the raised part is then inked and paper (or fabric, as it was) is placed on top. Woodblock Printing is vintage printing at its best! It’s credited as the earliest form of printing and was first developed in China around 200AD.Īs the name suggests, it involves carving a design into a block of wood. To give you more insight into how far print has come, we invite you to join us on a journey through the ages with this brief history of printing! We have striven for new and inventive ways to speed up and mechanise the print process for roughly 1,400 years, from the creation of woodcut print to the modern-day techniques of digital printing. It’s been an integral part of our development as a species and has proved to be a key contributor in spreading culture across the globe. The history of print runs parallel with the history of civilization. Call us biased, but print is pretty great. ![]() ![]() ![]() Without gopher tortoise burrows, we could lose many other animals because they won’t be able to use those burrows during a fire. We can see the same thing in our own state where gopher tortoise populations are shrinking, and their burrows provide shelter for hundreds of animals during wildfires. Tamarins are seed dispersers, helping to spread the growth of plants around the forest, bringing life, oxygen, and habitats to many other species. Ecosystems live harmoniously in a sometimes complex but fragile balance, and the decimation of certain populations can have major implications for the ecosystem. Working with the SSP to keep zoological populations healthy now and for future generations is important to sustaining a small population of animals, no matter the species.Īs we look to bolster future populations of other animals including golden lion tamarins, we can use a One Health approach to see how all life is connected. This helps us to have sustainable, viable populations within zoos. To simplify what an SSP does, it is kind of like a zoo matchmaking service where experts track genetics of members of a species that are in zoological settings, and try to match those genetics and animal temperaments with other members of that species at other zoos. ![]() Not every animal you see in the Zoo has an SSP, but most species that are vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered do. Within the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), we work with what is called the Species Survival Plan® (SSP) for individual species of animals. Zoo Atlanta’s conservation partner, the Golden Lion Tamarin Association , worked to vaccinate wild golden lion tamarins. Such a reduction can be cataclysmic for an already small population. Golden lion tamarins are primates, just like humans. Like humans, they are prone to diseases such as yellow fever. In 2019, a yellow fever outbreak reduced their wild population by at least a third. Their success is one of my favorite things to talk about when guests ask me, “Why do zoos matter?” If it weren’t for zoos, golden lion tamarins and many other species would be extinct in the wild or completely extinct. Golden lion tamarins are a model conservation story. In the late 1960s, a census was taken of wild GLTs, and the estimated wild population was fewer than 200 individuals. Thanks to the efforts of conservation organizations and the international zoo community, including Zoo Atlanta, the wild population is now around 2,500, with another 400 to 500 in zoological settings. Golden lion tamarins are small, fascinating primates found only in the Atlantic Coastal Forest of Brazil. They get their name from their yellow to orange fur and the fact that it is thick and long around their heads and resembles a lion’s mane. When this happens, we call it an extinction vortex. This is true for lots of things: money in your bank account, friends, toilet paper in a pandemic, and it’s especially true for animals that are endangered or worse, critically endangered. And the less you have of something that you need, the more precious those few things are. If you’re wearing a white shirt and have a meeting after lunch, you will spill your lunch on your shirt. S’mores aren’t ever as good as you remember them being when you were a kid. There are some things that are plainly true even though we don’t think about them often or ever. Sounds like a bad 80s hair band, but it’s something far worse ![]() ![]() ![]() Robert Walpole, Earl of Orford, Through the Lens of Imperial Struggle, by Clio's Board Games.Imperial Struggle Strategy Analysis: Initial Game Setup, by The Boardgames Chronicle.Imperial Struggle: Further Examples of Play, by Ananda Gupta.Imperial Struggle: Extended Example of Play, by Ananda Gupta.Playtesting Imperial Struggle, by Ananda Gupta.Imperial Struggle Development Update: Ministry Deck, Event Cards, and New Art!, by Ananda Gupta.A Struggle Anew: Imperial Struggle and Its Older Cousin, by Ananda Gupta.Articles on Imperial Struggle in InsideGMT:.Action Point 5 Article from The Players' Aid.Action Point 4 Article from The Players' Aid.Action Point 3 Article from The Players' Aid.Action Point 2 Article from The Players' Aid.Action Point 1 Article from The Players' Aid.How To Play Videos from The Boardgames Chronicle. ![]() Second After Action Report from The Boardgames Chronicle.First After Action Report from The Boardgames Chronicle. After Action Report from The Boardgames Chronicle.40 Minute Tutorial Video from Hands On Board Games.1 Hour and 9 Minute Playthrough of one Peace and War Turn from Legendary Tactics.1 Hour and 11 Minute How to Play Video from Legendary Tactics.BoardgameGeek Page for Imperial Struggle.Consimworld Discussion Board for Imperial Struggle.Introductory Scenario and Quick Start Rules for Imperial Struggle from Richard Edwards.Imperial Struggle Rules Ebook file (.epub format).Card & Counter Errata Visual Summary (Updated July 2020).Note on 2nd Printing :This printing will be identical to the 1st Printing, except that all known errata will be corrected.Ĭomponent Photos (see slideshow at left) by Scott Mansfield.
